Inspired By Inauguration Poet, Medford Launches Poetry Contest

Students are invited to submit a poem about unity to be highlighted by the School Committee and featured on the MPS website.

MEDFORD, MA — Medford students are invited to submit a poem for the 2021 Mustang Poetry Contest. Superintendent Marice Edouard-Vincent was inspired by inauguration poet Amanda Gorman, who performed for Medford middle schoolers in 2019.

Guidelines:

  • Poems are to be written on the theme of unity.
  • Poems can be written in any style or format.
  • It is suggested that the poems be ten lines or fewer.
  • Students of all grade levels are encouraged to participate.
  • You are welcome to include art with your poems.
  • Deadline: Monday, Feb. 22, 2021
  • Please email your submission to: superintendent@medford.k12.ma.us

Winners will be invited to read their poems via Zoom at the March 8 School Committee Meeting. Other poems will be shared on the Medford Public Schools Website.
