Katie Couric in Town Today; Warm Weather Arrives

Good morning, Medford. Here's five things to know today:

Couric Visits Tufts: (See an update on this story .)Amid rumors that she will leave the CBS Evening News to launch her own syndicated talk show, newswoman Katie Couric visits Tufts today. First, she'll be at the University Bookstore around 10:30 a.m. for a book signing, then she'll be speaking at the Murrow Forum at 12 p.m. in Asean Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Jeffrey Smith pleaded guilty last week to 13 charges alleging he sent letters to black churches, NAACP headquarters and individuals threatening violence. Letters were sent to Shiloh Baptist Church in Medford, and NAACP locations in Lawrence and Boston, threatening to burn down their buildings, prosecutors said.

Hot and Heavy (Rain): Temperatures will climb to the mid-70s today, but we'll also have heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service. But things should clear up this afternoon, making for mostly sunny skies.
