Local Stylist Opens Family-Friendly Hair Salon in Haines Square

Nancy's hair opened last week in Haines Square.

A familiar face has opened a new hair salon in Haines Square.

Nancy Campobasso, formerly a stylist at , opened her own salon at 429 Salem Street on March 7 called Nancy's Family Salon.

A Medford native and graduate of Medford Vocational High School, Campobasso is aiming to make her shop a place for kids and adults to get styled, she said. The waiting area has low seating, toys, books and a treasure chest that young customers get a prize from when their cut is done. For adults, there's coffee and candy. She also hosts hair styling birthday parties.

"The kids are loving it," she said.

Campobasso -- who is active in numerous local organizations including -- had been at Angles for two years and a stylist for 12 years. She's thought about opening her own shop for a while now and knew she wanted it to be kid-friendly, she said.

"I wanted the experience to be more on the child-friendly side," she said. "And you really can't do that in someone else's environment."

She got the keys to her new storefront, formerly part of Serenity in the City spa, on March 1. Within a week it was ready to open.

With a child of her own, she's had plenty of experience cutting kids hair, she said, that also led her to set reasonable prices. Kids cuts start at $15.

"I have a child, I cut coupons -- I get it," Campobasso said. "I want prices to be affordable."

Nancy's Family Salon is open Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays. The salon can be reached at 781-219-4644.
