The suspect made off with a bag of cash but a dye pack placed in the bag exploded on the street, which Faller said created a scene with both dye and cash all over the street.

Witnesses provided police with a description of the suspect's getaway vehicle, a gray Volkswagen, and Faller said Medford issued an alert for law enforcement to look out for the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, Faller said Massachusetts State Police stopped a vehicle that fit the description in Chelsea being operated by a female.

"There was evidence of the dye pack in the vehicle," Faller said.

After the woman was interviewed, Faller said police identified a male from Malden as the suspect in the robbery.

Malden Police Chief Kevin Molis said Malden Police, State Troopers and members of the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force responded to the Russell Street home, after receiving a report of a possible suspect in the Medford robbery.

"As a result of that, one suspect was taken into custody without incident, nobody hurt," Molis said.

As of just before 5 p.m., Faller said the suspect was still being processed in Malden.
