Medford City Council Approves Affordable Housing Changes

The mayor is expected to sign a new inclusionary zoning rule for new developments in the city.

MEDFORD, MA – The Medford City Council last week passed an "inclusionary zoning" rule that will put affordable housing requirements on new developments in the city. The vote was unanimous, according to the Medford Transcript.

Under the rule, developments of 10 units or more would be required to make a certain percentage affordable. This ranges from 10 percent for 10-unit buildings to 15 percent for buildings with 50 units or more, the Transcript reported.

Mayor Burke is expected to sign the change into law.
