Medford City Councilors Endorse State Auditor Candidate Chris Dempsey

Councilors Nicole Morell, Zac Bears, Kit Collins, and Justin Tseng announced their decision Wednesday.

MEDFORD, MA — Four Medford City Councilors have endorsed Democratic Candidate for State Auditor Chris Dempsey.

Medford City Council President Nicole Morell, City Council Vice President Zac Bears, and Councilors Kit Collins and Justin Tseng announced their decision Wednesday.

"Massachusetts needs a State Auditor who will rigorously track our progress on climate, transit, and equity. I'm proud to support Chris because I know he will ensure our policies and spending are in service of a more vibrant and livable Massachusetts for all,” Morell said in a statement.

"I'm with Chris because I know he will be a bold State Auditor and take action on climate and economic justice,” Bears said. "With the climate crisis only getting worse, we need leaders who are willing to step up and push our State forward in addressing climate change. Chris has an innovative and bold plan to introduce carbon accounting into state audits, this will be critical in helping our state meet its carbon reduction goals.

Dempsey served as Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Governor Deval Patrick and has worked outside of state government as Co-Founder of the grassroots No Boston Olympics and Director of the non-profit Transportation for Massachusetts.

“I am honored to have the support of City Council President Morell, Council Vice President Bears, and Councilors Collins and Tseng,” Dempsey said in a statement. "They have done such incredible work increasing Medford’s sustainability, walkability, and access to public transit and are truly a model for many to follow. The support I have received is inspiring and I could not be more proud to have earned their endorsement."

Dempsey secured the Massachusetts Democratic Party endorsement on the back of a grassroots campaign with over 2,000 individual donors. He has also secured endorsements from Auditor Suzanne Bump, Progressive Massachusetts, the Environmental League of Massachusetts, JP Progressives, Our Revolution Massachusetts, and Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts.
