MEDFORD, MA — An esthetician and local business owner is the recipient of the city’s first Vacant Storefront Grant. The new program gives business owners the opportunity to occupy vacant retail storefronts through grant funding and refundable tax credits.

Terry Gavin owns “Skin by Terry,” a skincare service that is headquartered in downtown Medford. The $10,000 Community Development Block Grant has since allowed Gavin to expand her woman and minority-owned business to a vacant location on 16 Bradlee Road.

Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn described the program as a “win-win” situation, as small business owners can accommodate their growing companies while also giving use to unused properties.

“Thank you to the Office of Planning, Development and Sustainability, especially our Economic Development Director, for your work on this program,” Lungo-Koehn said. “On behalf of the City, we hope that Skin by Terry’s success will encourage other businesses to take advantage of this program.”
