MEDFORD, MA — The City of Medford has renewed its Community Electricity Aggregation (CEA) contract for two years, offering significant winter energy price relief for enrolled participants.

Medford residents currently participating in the Community Electricity Aggregation program will automatically receive new prices, which will be fixed from December 2022 through December 2024. Medford CEA’s new electricity supplier will be NextEra Energy Services.

National Grid proposed that as of November 1 the default Residential Basic Service Fixed supply rate will be 33.891 cents/kWh, which is significantly higher than the new default Medford Local Green supply rate of 15.348 cents/kWh.

National Grid’s rates change twice a year for Residential and Small Business customers on May 1 and November 1, but Medford CEA’s new rates will be fixed for two years.

“Getting this contract renewed was a top priority as we head into the winter months with energy costs rising,” Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said in a statement. “Now we’ll hopefully be able to provide real relief for residents who enroll in this program and I encourage everyone in Medford to explore the options the CEA provides.”

Medford residents can confirm that they are enrolled in Medford Community Electricity Aggregation by looking at the Supply Services Section of a recent electric bill. If it says “Supplier: Dynegy – Medford,” then that account is enrolled. If it says something else such as Basic Service Fixed or names a supplier other than Dynegy, then that account is not enrolled.

In December 2022, all Medford CEA participants will automatically be transitioned to the new price for the program option in which they are now enrolled.
