Medford Rehab Center Workers Planning Wage Protest
The workers' union is in contract negotiations with the facility.
MEDFORD, MA — Employees of Medford Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on 300 Winthrop St. are planning to strike this week in the midst of stalled contract negotiations.
The picket protest is slated for Thursday afternoon, as workers are claiming they are dealing with inadequate wages, a lack of retirement options, and high staff turnover that is affecting the quality of care for the center’s residents.
Negotiations between the company and the 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East Union began in June, and a deal has yet to be reached. 90 workers will be protesting with the goal of having things such as a $23 per hour wage for workers who have more than 20 years of experience at the center as well as a starting minimum wage of $18 for new employees.
