Medford Roots of Slain Auburn Cop Remembered at Council Meeting

Tarentino grew up on Alexander Avenue in South Medford, attended the Kennedy School and played Medford little league baseball.

MEDFORD, MA - The Medford roots of a murdered Auburn police officer were remembered at last night's Medford City Council meeting.

Ronald Tarentino, 42, was shot during a traffic stop in Auburn at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, according to police. He was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Tarentino grew up on Alexander Avenue in South Medford, attended the Kennedy School and played Medford little league baseball. "He was a great police officer and will be sorely missed," said Councilor Michael Marks.

Police said Tarentino joined the Auburn Police Department three years ago after transferring from Leicester. He was a Tewksbury native and a graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School's Class of 1991. He is survived by a wife and three children.
