Medford Runner: 'We Will All Do It'

Mike Trevor shares a special experience he had running today in Medford.

Medford runner Mike Trevor posted a special experience he had Wednesday while going for a run on Medford Patch's Facebook page.

Trevor said in a subsequent message with Medford Patch that he was on the list of runners for this year's Boston Marathon from Medford but could not participate due to injury.

Trevor said he has run the marathon "many times before."

Here is what Trevor wrote Wednesday on our Facebook page:

As a runner, I run on good and bad days, sunny and snowy days, days that I feel strong and others when it feels like one mile might as well be a marathon. I run with others but most of the time I run just by myself.

Today I went for a run not knowing what to feel. Getting dressed to head out...........It did feel right to put on a past Boston Marathon Race shirt with its logos and well known Blue and Yellow colors. Rummaging through my running sock drawer it was easy to decide that my USA Flag socks were the correct choice as well. Weather was beautiful for a Boston Spring Day.

I was just a sole runner going along one of my typical running routes from my home but my thoughts were certainly not typical. The community around me was different.........A car beeping at me, a person I ran by giving a nod, or the passengers of a car just looking at me and reflecting a little longer than usual...........all made this run something more. Blue, Yellow, and Unicorn logo running along never symbolized more. Every stride felt like it had more purpose and needed to be reveled in.

Running is one of my best ways to clear my mind, organize my thoughts, put things in perspective, and just make myself feel better. Today I started my run sad, devastated, confused, and depressed.........as the miles passed, after some tears, much reflection, and a million random and not so random thoughts............there was a shift to I, You, and Us are strong, will endure, and will be OK.

I ran today in tribute with strength and endurance for those killed, those injured, and those who experienced an event none of us ever should. Every nod, glance, and beep from my community gave me strength and positive energy. Today, I ran that running loop 4 minutes faster than I ever had.

One of my favorite running mantras is “if it was easy everyone would do it”, well it won’t be easy but my run today made it perfectly clear to me that together “We all will do it” one supportive, loving, strong stride at a time.
