Mixed-Use Building On Locust Street Approved By Medford ZBA
The former Shaw's Supermarket is set to become a five-story, 350-unit building.

MEDFORD, MA – A new developer's proposal for 61 Locust St., the one-time site of a Shaw's Supermarket, has received approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals. According to the Medford Transcript, the ZBA last week approved the Hanover Company's proposal for a five-story, 350-unit mixed-use building at the site.
The proposal includes 5,850 square feet of commercial space and one, two and three-bedroom units and studios. Ten percent of the units will be affordable, the Transcript reported.
The Hanover Company's proposal, scaled-back from an original 490-unit mixed-use proposal from property owner Equity One, was accepted by the city council April 3. The proposal also differs from the initial one in that it only requires the demolition of the former Shaw's.
