Preservation Requirements Added To Medford's Peter Tufts House
The 17th-century brick home is being sold by the Medford Historical Society and Museum.

MEDFORD, MA – The Peter Tufts House is for sale, but its next owner won't have free rein to decide what happens to the property. City officials recently approved new preservation restrictions for the 17th-century brick house on Riverside Avenue.
The buyer must get approval from non-profit Historic New England before installing heating and air conditioning or additional rooms or floors, according to the Medford Transcript. Activities such as demolition or unlawful use of the property are prohibited, and the next owner must get homeowners insurance.
The Medford Historical Society and Museum put the house on the market in September. It is thought to be one of the oldest brick homes in the country and has been owned by the Historical Society since 1986.
