School Committee to Discuss Hiring, Retention Policy for Coaches

On the heels of the firing of head soccer coach Mike Petrides, the School Committee will discuss the district's policy for the hiring and retention of athletics coaches.

About a dozen players from the Medford High School soccer team t last week after learning Petrides had been fired. The met with high school Headmaster Paul Krueger Monday, who notified team captain John Pires in a letter on Tuesday that his decision to not bring back Petrides would stand.

"This decision to replace Coach Petrides was made over time with much consideration. This is not the first year that (Athletic Director Bob Maloney) and I have addressed concerns with the coach; nor is this the first year that Mr. Maloney and I have discussed the need to make a change," the letter, published in the Medford Transcript, said.

Monday's meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
