Medford's unempoyment is hanging around 5 percent.

Medford's unemployment dropped slightly from July to August, but remains at a level nearly identical to what it was at the beginning of Summer.

According to figures released by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, Medford's unemployment rate was 5.4 percent in June, 5.5 percent in July and 5.3 percent in August.

Since the start of 2012, Medford's unemployment rate has dropped nearly one percent, according to the data.

Across the state, the unemployment rate in August was 6.4 percent. In August of 2011 it was 7.2 percent.
