Seeking Art Made By the Elderly

Mystic Valley Elder Services is prepping for its annual art show.

Mystic Valley Elder Services is calling for submissions by elder artists for its tenth annual senior art show to be held September 15 to October 14. The art show kicks off a full-month celebration of elders in the arts at Mystic Valley Elder Services. This celebration, ART+experience, will feature free art and writing workshops for adults 60+ residing in Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, and Wakefield.

Senior artists may submit up to 2 works of original, framed art to be displayed in the senior art show. Category ribbons will be awarded for best painting, photography, drawing, and collage. Mystic Valley is also seeking an experienced senior photographer to photograph the ART+experience opening reception on September 14, 2011. The celebration will end with a closing reception and reading on October 12, 2011.

As part of ART+experience, Mystic Valley Elder Services will also be hosting free classes for seniors in fiction, memoir writing, photography, poetry, watercolor, and calligraphy. Elders interested in teaching art workshops may also contact the agency to volunteer their time and expertise. Class schedule may be found at www.mves.org/art.php
