MEDFORD, MA — The city announced on Monday that it is re-launching a program that gives seniors the opportunity to receive tax abatements in exchange for municipal work.

The Senior Work-Off Abatement Program was organized by the Council on Aging and Office of the Assessors for residents ages 60 and older. Interested parties can apply for the approximately 20 spots available in 2025 by attending a public meeting at the senior center on Thursday, July 24. Potential applicants will be given a packet of paperwork with questions to complete and return to the senior center by Friday, Aug. 8. According to the city, residents who have yet to partake in the program will get preference in being selected. Some of the job opportunities have specific and varying skill sets.

The work program will begin on Sept. 2, and must be completed on or before Feb. 20, 2026. The city strongly encourages veterans to apply for the program.
