Temps Could Tip 100 Degrees; School Officials to Discuss Coaching Policies

Good morning, Medford. Here's five things to know today:

Triple Digits?: Highs today could exceed 100 degrees with a heat index of 107 or more, according to the National Weather Service. Mid-90s are expected tomorrow. Here's a few tips from the Environmental Protection Agency on staying cool:

  • Carpool or use public transportation
  • Buy gasoline at night
  • Avoid using gasoline powered engines such as lawn mowers and chain saws
  • Turn off unnecessary lights, and shut down household electronics when they aren't in use
  • Set your A/C temperature to higher
  • Run dishwashers and clothes washers at night
  • Stay indoors
  • Avoid strenuous activity

: On the heels of the firing of head soccer coach Mike Petrides, the School Committee will discuss the district's policy for the hiring and retention of athletics coaches. The meeting will take place Monday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

: Carlos Edwards, 33, allegedly threw his seven-week old child at it's mother during an argument Wednesday. The child landed fast-first on the pavement on Cross Street. Edwards faces counts of assault and battery.
