Third Man Charged in 2014 Rosewood Street Killing Apprehended in Georgia

Lorenzo Jones Jr., charged in the double-homicide of Clarence McGregor, of Dorchester, and Teasia Montgomery, of Medford, has been found.

Medford, MA - The third and final man charged in a 2014 double-murder has been caught, the Boston Police Department and Suffolk County District Attorney's office said in a joint statement Friday.

Lorenzo Jones Jr. was indicted March 29 on two counts of first-degree murder in the 2014 shooting deaths of Clarence McGregor, of Dorchester, and Teasia Montgomery, of Medford. He was apprehended in Augusta, Ga., this week, according to the joint statement.

Jones is one of three charged in McGregor and Montgomery's murder. His co-defendants, Steven Stephen and Tony Evans, were ordered held without bail last month, both charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Evans was found in Charlotte, N.C., and Stephen was already in custody on an unrelated gun offense.

The indictments and arrests followed an investigation by Boston Police homicide detectives and Suffolk County prosecutors into the 2014 murders. Boston Police discovered both victims with life-threatening injuries, after reports of shots fired in the early morning hours of Jan. 27 on Rosewood Street in Mattapan.

McGregor was found lying in the street, and Montgomery was on the sidewalk nearby. Both were transported to the hospital, where they died. He was 25, and she was 28 at the time.

Evans, Jones, and Stephen were identified as suspects through ballistics at the scene, witness statements, cell tower records, and other evidence gathered in the two years since, the statement said. Police and prosecutors believe the victims were targeted by the shooters.

According to the press release, Jones may not immediately return to Boston for arraignment, due to an unrelated gunshot injury that "may affect his ability to travel."

Steven and Evans are scheduled to return to court May 31.
