- A decision to not renew high school head soccer coach Mike Petrides's contract was reversed by headmaster Paul Krueger at the end of July, after weeks of controversy where the personnel move was discussed publicly at and meetings.
- A 15-year-old Medford girl was blackmailed into having sex with a man she met on the internet, and investigators believe she may not be the only victim, prosecutors said.
- By the time Cam Neely arrived at Modell's Sporting Goods in Medford for an autograph session, the line to meet him stretched from the front door at Modell's Sporting Goods nearly to the Stop N' Shop well around the corner.
- A man suspected of multiple car breaks was arrested July 16 with the help of a Medford firefighter who spotting him trying to break into his car parked at the High Street fire station.
- The U.S. Postal Service is considering shutting the post offices at 470 Boston Ave. and 485 High St. The closures would leave Medford with one fully operational post office, located on Forest Street in Medford Square.
- All incumbents on the school committee and city council will seek re-election along with Mayor Michael McGlynn who will be seeking his 12th consecutive term as mayor.
- Alec Finn and Joe D'Alessandro will both be continuing their football careers in college, with Finn set to play at Curry College and D'Alessandro at Hudson Valley Community College.
- The "Fast14" project continued along, snarling traffic on I-93 each weekend, but also quickly replacing highway bridges in an innovative way.
- Investigators were led to Gerald Sullivan, 37, of Charlestown by DNA collected at 55 Jerome Street that was matched with a sample in a criminal database. He was indicted in July on a murder charge.
- Gov. Deval Patrick paid a visit to the headquarters of the "Fast14" rapid bridge replace project July 19, praising those involved with the work. "The fact that you are trying to do things in some innovative ways, and doing it in ways that just sing, and get national recognition, it makes me really proud,” Patrick said.
