Two Injured in Weekend Medford Apartment Fire

Fire started in the kitchen of an apartment on Riverside Avenue.

Two people were injured and four people were displaced in a fire at a senior apartment housing complex on Riverside Avenue early Sunday morning, according to Boston.com.

Medford Fire told Boston.com the fire started in the kitchen of a third-floor apartment of the 14-story building. One person was sent to Massachusetts General Hospital with burns and one other person was injured, according to Boston.com.

The fire caused smoke damage through the building and water damage on the first and second floors, Boston.com reported.

In e-mail statements, the American Red Cross said the fire took place at 99 Riverside Ave. Residents impacted by the fire were first taken to the nearby Medford Senior Center, and the Red Cross said in all four people from three units were displaced as well as two cats and a guinea pig.

The Red Cross said they provided emergency funds for food and clothing for the residents displaced. Those unable to return to their homes "are being put up in a hotel by the residential management company managing the building," the Red Cross said.
