U.S. House Allots $500K Toward Finishing Wellington Greenway

The final phase of the project will create a shared-use path along the Malden River in Medford and the Wellington T stop.

MEDFORD, MA — Construction on the final phase of the Wellington Greenway will be funded by a $500,000 Community Project Funding request by U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark, which was included in the House Appropriations Committee budget for the 2022 fiscal year.

The Greenway is part of a continuous 10-mile waterfront path and park system along the Mystic and Malden Rivers. The final phase is a 0.3-mile, shared-use path along the Malden River in Medford and the Wellington MBTA stop.

Clark will tour the site Wednesday morning. The aim of the project is to create equitable access to safe, off-road walking and biking corridors for surrounding communities while mitigating the traffic impacts of more residential and commercial development in the area, the congresswoman said.
