Week in Review: Clinton to Visit Tufts; A Grenade Found; Fire on Sturges

Here's some of the top stories from Medford this week:

Former President Bill Clinton will speak at Tufts University in November, the school has announced. Clinton will deliver the Issam M. Fares Lecture on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 4:00 P.M. in the Gantcher Family Sports Center, according to a university press release.

Medford firefighters responded to a two alarm house fire Thursday morning at 41 Sturges St. The fire, in an occupied 2 1/2 story residential home, was quickly brought under control with in 30 minutes of the arrival of firefighters on scene.

The Medford Fire Department called in the state's bomb squad after receiving a report of a found grenade at 139 Central Ave. about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, officials said. It was quickly determined to be inactive, Fire Marshal Spokesperson Jennifer Mieth said. The grenade was among belongings of a relative who had recently died and had apparently taken it as a souvenir from World War II, Mieth said.

DiMasi Gets 8 Years in Corruption Case: Former house speaker Salvatore DiMasi was sentenced to eight years in federal prison after being convicted of political corruption charges. DiMasi will have to report to prison in November.
