Week in Review: Thursday's Primary, Bizarre Alleged Assault at Madonna Concert, Credit Card Fraud Sentencing

A Medford man faces an assault charge after allegedly throwing a fit in the concession stand line during Tuesday's Madonna concert at TD Garden in Boston. Jeffrey Jansen, 37, was waiting in line at an alcohol-serving concession Tuesday night when he apparently began to grow impatient, according to a press release from the Suffolk County Attorney's office. According to the district attorney, Jansen told the bartender, "If you take her first," referring to the woman in front of him in line, "I swear to God I will pound someone’s face in." When the bartender served the woman, Jansen allegedly yelled and took a swing at the bartender's tap handle, which flew off and lacerated the woman's face, according to the press release.

Tierney Wins Republican Primary, Set to Take on Markey: Framingham's Tom Tierney is the Republican selection for the Massachusetts 5th district seat in Congress, the AP reports. Tierney, a 69-year-old actuary consultant, topped fellow Republicans Frank Addivinola of Malden and Jeff Semon of Lexington. He will face incumbent Ed Markey, who has served 18 straight terms in Washington, in the general election in November. According to the AP, Tierney received 42 percent of the vote, Addivinola placed second with 31 percent and Semon received 28 percent. A total of 11,539 ballots were cast in fifth district primary.

Maria Curtatone Wins Register of Deeds Primary for Middlesex South: With 382 out of 385 precincts reporting, it appeared that Maria Curtatone, a lawyer from Somerville, won Thursday's Democratic primary for register of deeds in Middlesex County's southern district, which includes Medford. At 12:30 a.m. Sept. 7, according to unofficial results compiled from Boston.com and the Waltham election office, Maria Curtatone received 14,524 votes. Her closest competitor, Maryann Heuston, also from Somerville, received 12,971 votes.

Terrence Kennedy Wins Governor's Council Race: Terrence Kennedy won the Governor's Council primary with a win over challenger Francis Flaherty Thursday night. Since there is no Republican Challenger, Kennedy is expected to represent Medford, which is part of the Governor's Council's 6th district.

Magic Factory Owner Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Credit Card Fraud: Harry Levy, the owner of Hank Lee's Magic Factory in Medford, was sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday for committing credit card fraud and misleading investigators, according to a court official. Judge Patti Saris handed down the sentence in a hearing Thursday morning at U.S. District in Boston. Levy's attorney unsuccessfully argued for him to avoid prison time and serve six months in a halfway house, six months house arrest and three years probation instead, according to court filings., then lying about the charges to investigators, according to court filings. His plea agreement also requires him to pay restitution to the victim.
