West Nile Found in Medford, I-93 Construction Continues, Tax Holiday Weekend

Good morning, here's five things to know today:

A small pool of mosquitoes infected by the West Nile Virus have been found in Medford, according to a press release from the city's board of health. Chances of acquiring mosquito borne diseases such as WNV or EEE are slim, but residents should be aware that these viruses can cause fever, meningitis or encephalitis, the press release said.

The Fast14 rapid bridge replacement project on I-93 in Medford will replace its 14th and final bridge this weekend. As usual, the work will begin Friday at 7:45 p.m. and continue through 5 a.m. Monday. It will narrow I-93 to two lanes between Exit 28 in Somerville and Exit 36 in Stoneham. This weekend's work will replace a bridge that takes I-93 South over Route 16. As result, Route 16 will be closed to both directions of traffic near the highway.

Head to 75 South St. at 8 a.m. Saturday to help other volunteers remove the invasive water chestnut from the Mystic River. Using canoes, kayaks, and small boats, volunteers will pull water chestnuts out of the water by hand and then deposit the harvested plants at a designated shore site.  Volunteers who have canoes or kayaks are encouraged to bring their own, but they will be provided for those who don't

Sales Tax Holiday: This weekend is a sales tax holiday in Massachusetts, with the state's 6.25 percent sales tax suspended Saturday and Sunday.

Sunny and Warm: Clear skies with highs in the low 80s are expected today, according to the National Weather Service. Similar weather is expected tomorrow. There's a 30 percent chance of rain Sunday.
