Which Road in Medford Needs a Speed Bump?
We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

Medford, MA- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.
While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Medford. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Medford, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:
- "Hancock Street could use a raised crosswalk/speed-bump at Willis and another one at Hancock Ave. It is especially not safe for children to cross when walking to-from school or the area bus stops."
- "I think central ave needs two back at Linwood and also Yeomans. It's a long stretch between the lights and people go so fast even though there is a park right there so there would obviously be children."
- "The other end of Spring Street by Salem Street. People come flying off of Salem Street and barely miss my kids that have to cross to get home."
- "Marion Street needs a speed bump. People race down!"
- "Spring Street - between Riverside Ave. and the light. People fly down that stretch!"
- "Fellsway West between Elm Street and Parkway Road."
- "Wareham Street! People fly down that street. It's a small one way and people still go down the wrong way?!"
- "Govenors Ave!! High Street by CVS. Can't tell you how many times my daughter and I have almost gotten hit in cross walk."
- "Elm Street for sure! If we try to back out of our driveways we get people honking at us!
- "All along Forest Street leading into Medford Square would be great! People speed like crazy on that stretch of road thinking they're still on I-93!"
