2) The Melrose Energy Commission (MEC) is hosting a free mini-workshop on Getting the Best Value in a Home Heating System at the library tonight at 7 p.m. At the workshop, Jack Welch will describe the various options available to homeowners and explain how to choose an energy-efficient system. Travis Estes of Next Step Living will provide information about financial incentives, including zero-interest loans that can cover the cost of the entire system.

3) Fire Watch in Effect. The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch in effect for today in Melrose and most of southern New England, with strong winds and dry weather meaning that any fires that develop have the potential to spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
