Press release submitted by the Melrose YMCA.
. The new Association will include The Lynn YMCA, Torigian Family YMCA (Peabody), Saugus YMCA and Melrose Family YMCA. While all will be a part of the new Metro North Association, each location will continue to be referred to by its current name. The Association will include seven facilities serving the communities of Lynn, Lynnfield, Melrose, Nahant, Peabody, Saugus and Stoneham.
. In April 2010, the Greater Lynn YMCA entered into a temporary, one-year partnership with the Melrose Family Y to assist with management and share resources. Based on the success of the initial partnership, the boards of both Ys voted to work towards a permanent unification. In May 2011, a task force composed of four board members representing both Ys began a more in-depth review. After spending six months assessing the viability and benefits, the task force recommended moving forward to form one association.
Bruce Macdonald, Greater Lynn Y CEO, will serve as CEO of the new association. “We are thrilled to announce the new association name and continue to work towards uniting our communities,” said Macdonald. “The new name acknowledges the importance of this partnership and provides a strong platform to continue to best serve the communities of Melrose and Greater Lynn. As the YMCA of Metro North, we will continue in our mission to improve the quality of life for our members and the community.”
Starting January 1st, members will be able to access the full spectrum of programs and services at all seven association facilities. This includes indoor and outdoor pools, state-of-the art fitness facilities and classes, childcare, summer programs and more. The new Association plans to continue to expand and refine its programs and services to serve the needs of every Metro North Community.
To celebrate the launch of the new association, the YMCA of Metro North is holding a contest to collect stories and photos from past and present Y members. The Grand Prize winner will receive a free family membership for a year. For more information, or to enter visit www.YMCAMetroNorth.org or your local Metro North Y.
