Art Show: Intangible Spirit

Abstract artists Brighton resident Robin Dawkins and Melrose resident Robyn Katz-Adelman are exhibiting their work in a show entitled "Intangible Spirit," at the Pearl Street Gallery in Chelsea starting on Saturday, Nov. 13.

The show consists of about 30 drawings and paintings, all reflecting their unique vision.

Dawkins, of Brighton, often uses a combination of painting and drawing techniques to explore the elements of positive and negative space through line, movement, color, shape and textures. Her work, which includes traditional oils, acrylics and various drawing media, is inspired by nature and the works of Pollack, Kandinsky and Picasso.

Dawkins, who has studied with astract expressionists Kofi Kayiga, Peter Wayne Lewis and Sandra Dunn, has exhibited at the Magnolia Arts Festival, the North Shore Art Association, Mass. College of Art, and Lesley University. She also received the North Shore Art Association's Most Popular Award in 2001.

Katz-Adelman's paintings feature abstract interpretation of the human figure and usually are done on paper, using a series of media, including oil pastels, oil sticks, oil paint, and acrylics.

She recently moved to Melrose from Malden, and has exhibited at the Malden Public Library, the MATV Gallery in Malden and Gallery 181 in Lawrence.

The opening reception is from 1-5pm on Saturday, Nov. 13. The gallery is open Thursdays 6-8, Saturdays 2-5, and Sundays 2-5. The show runs through Dec. 20.

The Pearl Street Gallery is located in the shade of the Tobin Bridge at 100 Pearl Street in Chelsea. It showcases local art from both emerging and seasoned artists.
