High School Football: Melrose Clinches Middlesex Freedom Title

Senior quarterback Julian Nyland helped push the undefeated Red Raiders past the Stoneham Spartans Friday evening.

The Melrose High School varsity football team improved to 6-0 and clinched the Middelsex Freedom league title Friday night.

The No. 15 ranked Red Raiders knocked off the Stoneham Spartans 17-7 at Fred Green Field.

Melrose senior quarterback Julian Nyland accounted for two touchdowns and helped propel his team to a scrappy victory in front of the hometown fans. Nyland threw for one score and rushed for another.

The Red Raiders will next be in action on Friday, Oct. 23, against Woburn.
