Letter: Support The Neighborhood Recycling Campaign

Marie Ryan asks her fellow residents to support the city's new campaign to reduce trash and increase recycling through education and neighborhood teamwork.

To the Editor:

When I received an invite recently from Ward 5 Alderman Gail Infurna to attend an the Neighborhood Recycling Campaign, it sounded interesting. And it was! Ward 5 residents would be the first to participate, I was told, with other wards to follow at future dates. I encourage other wards to watch for their meetings, because interesting facts were discussed and many good questions were asked and answered. There were some excellent handouts available with more up-to-date recycling information, also.

The Campaign's goal is to reduce trash and increase recycling through education and neighborhood teamwork. This is a great way to get involved, meet your neighbors and make a difference in the environment. Most of us know that in today’s world recycling is an environmental  necessity and as Mayor Dolan explained at the meeting, it can be a financial savings to the city and, therefore, to its residents and that, folks, means us!

Let's make a conscious effort to join with the Mayor, our DPW and the new Solid Waste & Recycling Coordinator Jessie Schmitt in increasing our recycling efforts in all areas and being more aware of being “green." In this case we must disagree with our friend, Kermit the Frog—because we can “…make it easy being green!”

Thank you to our local newspapers for getting this information to our residents.
