MELROSE, MA — Melrose will look to remember and honor those who died in the September 11th attacks with a showing of the film “Worth" next month.

The movie showing is set to run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Milano Center at 201 West Foster St. in Melrose. It will be followed by a live virtual question and answer session with Kenneth Feinberg, who wrote the book that “Worth” is based on. Both "Worth" and Feinberg's book delve into the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund and efforts to get compensation for people impacted by the attacks.

“In remembrance of an overwhelmingly tragic day, the Milano Center wants to honor those who lost their lives in the events of September 11th,” Melrose Council on Aging Executive Director Stacey Minchello said in a recent event announcement. “While this movie showing is an interactive learning program, our intention is to remember and reflect.”

Feinberg is an attorney who, just days after the attacks, was called on to help run the Victim Compensation Fund. Set up by the federal government, the fund aimed to distribute money to families that lost a loved one in the attacks.

Feinberg later wrote his book “What Is Life Worth? The Inside Story of the 9/11 Fund and Its Effort to Compensate the Victims of September 11th.” The book chronicles “battles of cynicism, bureaucracy and politics” that Feinberg faced in his role with the Victim Compensation Fund, as noted by the recent movie showing announcement.

“Worth” adapted Feinberg’s book for the movie screen in 2020.

The upcoming “Worth” screening in Melrose is free to all.
