MELROSE, MA — The city has been named as one of the operating locations for a multi-year marijuana grow and distribution ring, according to a report from NBC 10 Boston.

Federal prosecutors announced earlier this week that seven Chinese nationals are now facing charges for their alleged involvement in the operation that goes back to 2020. Melrose resident Peng Lian Zhu, 35, was one of the seven who were arrested and are now facing federal charges. He and his co-conspirators are being accused of working together to sell kilograms of marijuana in bulk across the Northeast, including cash transactions with operators in New York.

Other communities named as operating locations were Braintree and Greenfield.
