Melrose Municipal Buildings To Temporarily Close For Employee Training
The closures will accommodate planned trainings on diversity equity and inclusion, anti-harassment and anti-discrimination.

MELROSE, MA — Melrose city facilities will close to the public for part of the day on Sept. 20 to make way for a day of training and staff development, the Melrose Mayor’s Office announced on Monday.
Trainings will focus on diversity equity and inclusion, anti-harassment and anti-discrimination.
City Hall and the Veterans Service Department will be closed from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The City Yard at 76 Tremont St. will then be closed between 12:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. to accommodate training for Department of Public Works employees.

Plans this month are part of what the mayor’s office described as an ongoing commitment to these kinds of trainings.
“This live training will create a learning environment that is deeply engaging and impactful for our employees while reinforcing the City’s policies, best practices, and providing employees with practical tools to encourage behaviors that are aligned with the values our community and the City of Melrose,” Mayor Paul Brodeur said in his recent statement. “I look forward to joining the training and learning alongside our colleagues from every department.”

The city has hired certified trainers from the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination to lead trainings.
The organization’s trainings focus on teaching individuals about their rights while teaching organizations about their responsibilities under state anti-discrimination laws.
"The training will also support employees in their understanding of the city's Harassment Prevention Policy, Equal Employment Policy, and Americans with Disabilities Act, among others," the mayor's office said.
