Melrose Small Businesses, Nonprofits Receive Economic Recovery Grants

Applications are currently being accepted until late April for a second round of funding.

MELROSE, MA – More than two dozen small businesses and nonprofits in Melrose have been awarded economic recovery grants by the city of Melrose, city officials announced Monday.

In total, thirty Small Business and Nonprofit Economic Recovery Grants were awarded to Melrose businesses and organizations to help alleviate financial impacts from the pandemic, such as staffing challenges, declines in revenue, and business closures or canceled events.

The grant program began in October 2022 to aid Melrose small businesses and nonprofits recover financially from the Covid-19 pandemic and to ensure Melrose’s economic recovery.

“Melrose businesses and nonprofits have persevered through an unprecedented time with grace and creativity. They have found new ways to do business and serve customers or fundraise and continue offering programs and opportunities for residents. I am confident these grants will support their continued economic recovery,” Mayor Paul Brodeur said in a news release.

Applications are currently being accepted for a second round of funding. The deadline to apply for this round is Friday, April 21.

Applicants who can demonstrate a financial loss related to the pandemic, and applicants serving groups disproportionately impacted by the pandemic will be given priority.

To be eligible for an award, applicants must meet certain criteria including being based in Melrose, have no more than 35 employees and be in good standing with the city and state.

Hard copy applications are also available at the Mayor’s Office, located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, 562 Main St. More information can also be found online.
