UPDATE: 14 Melrose Runners at Boston Marathon are Safe

We'll post any additional updates we receive about the dozens of Melrose residents that were participating in the 2013 Boston Marathon on Monday prior to the tragic explosions that brought the annual event to a halt.

In an email to Melrose Patch, reader Chris Vander Rhodes wrote, "Josh Iverson and family are safe. Josh's group was stopped at 25.3 miles" of the Boston Marathon route.

Fourteen of 40 Melrose runners have been reported safe. We'll continue to provide updates as we receive them.

In an email to Melrose Patch late Tuesday night, Melrose runner Kevin Reddall wrote, "I finished the marathon safely. Thanks for your concern."

Thirteen of 40 local runners that were supposed to run the Boston Marathon are reportedly safe. Allison Gilgun is reportedly safe, according to a Melrose Patch reader. 

A dozen Melrose runners of the 40 who were supposed to run at the Boston Marathon have been accounted for.

In a direct message to the Melrose Patch Facebook page, Melrose runner Maureen Maher wrote, "Maureen Maher and her family are safe. Thank you for collecting this information. Many prayers for the victims of this tragedy and all of those affected by this senseless act."

Meanwhile, Melrose runner Erinn Metzger is reportedly safe, according to an email to Melrose Patch from one of her co-workers. 

Patrick Ruster, of Melrose, works with Metzger at John Hancock reports "I have not heard directly, but other managers have accounted for her." He first learned of her status via a phone call and text, according to the email.

Melrose runner Diane Lueger is home safe, according to a tweet from Michael Lueger (@mlueger). 

Nine of 40 Melrose runners are reportedly safe.

A reader sent Melrose Patch's Facebook account a direct message, saying, "Melrosian Sue Worrall is accounted for and okay."

A reader, wishing to remain anonymous, emailed Melrose Patch, saying that, "Jeff Rushton and Benjamin Joslin are okay...via Facebook reports."

Several runners with Melrose ties are reportedly safe, according to a Twitter report.

Dozens of people were injured and two were reportedly killed by two explosions near the Boston Marathon finish line. However, social media reports so far have indicated a handful of Melrosians, and non-Melrosians with ties to the city, are safe and sound. 

"Runners from Melrose Boot Camp Joy Fay, Linda Sheehan and Stacy Sutken are OK," tweeted Twitter user Erik Doetsch (@edoetsch). Joy (Fay) and the Melrose Boot Camp group are safe," confirmed Facebook reader Kim Berlee.

Runners Tara Deeble, Jeff Barris, Erik Simard and their families are all accounted for and safe, according to a Facebook post from Melissa Linehan Cunningham. Runner Sam Sullivan is safe, according to a Facebook post from Betsey Benagh.
