Thousands Lose Power In Melrose, Malden After Transformer Blows

It could be hours before power is restored for more than 4,700 in Melrose and Malden.

MELROSE, MA — At least 4,700 in Melrose and Malden are without power after a transformer blew on Beech Avenue. National Grid said power may be restored by 11 p.m.; Ryan Williams, a candidate for Ward 7 City Councilor in Melrose, told Patch workers on scene are estimating a couple hours later.

Williams said a branch made contact with the box.

National Grid said 4,702 are without power as of 9:40 p.m. The City of Malden said more than 5,000 are without power.
