What To Expect At This Year's Melrose Memorial Day Parade

The 2015 Memorial Day festivity will celebrate Korean War vets from Melrose.

Towns and cities nationwide will be conducting Memorial Day parades this upcoming Sunday, May 24.

But Melrose is setting itself slightly apart by putting special emphasis on Americans who perished in the Korean War.

The city intends to commemorate this occasion with a new monument honoring veterans of the relatively obscure, early 1950s conflict.

“This year’s parade is the culmination of our year-long focus on the Korean War and the Melrosians who served and sacrificed during that terrible and often forgotten conflict,” Melrose Veterans Services Officer Ryan McLane said in a statement from the city.

“Our Korean War veterans will join veterans from all eras in helping us to dedicate our new Korean War monument in the morning, followed by the parade down Main Street in a traditional recognition of those service men and women lost in military service.”
