5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 19
The Milford Varsity Softball team has been ranked 25th nationally by USA Today and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. The Milford Varsity Softball team captured the state championship for District 1 this weekend, as many know, but it also has placed nationally, based on its schedule, quality of competition and players. The team, which finished its season 24-1, is ranked in 25th place, according to a ranking by USA Today and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Number one is Northern High in Maryland, with a record of 23-0.
2. The Milford Performing Arts Center will present the Sound of Music this weekend. Shows will begin Friday and continue into Sunday.

3. A fundraising concert to repair and restore the pipe organ at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church will be held at Memorial Hall at 2 p.m. Sunday. The concert of works for cello and piano features Milford cellist Eleanor Blake and Romanian pianist Roxana Bajdechi. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $20.
4. Also this weekend, the Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint on a public way in Worcester County, sometime from Friday, June 21 into Saturday, June 22.

5. The Milford Community School Use program will offer a three-week SAT prep course for English and Math (a combined class) from July 8 to 26. This course will no longer be offered at the high school in the fall as an elective. It is offered through Community Use as enrichment only, not for credit. The cost is $155 for Milford residents, and $195 for students from other towns. Contact the Community School Use program to register.Â
