5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 6

Friends and loved ones of Scott Ellmore, a Milford father battling cancer that has spread to his liver, are raising funds for his treatments on GoFundMe.com. And the School Committee meets tonight.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. The Milford School Committee meets Thursday, and is expected to hear a presentation and update on Project Search, a one-year high school program that provides training and education for young adults with disabilities, preparing them for job placements. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Milford High School.

2. The Milford Area Chamber of Commerce has published a notice that states it has not endorsed the proposed Foxwoods Massachusetts casino in Milford, and did not authorize a letter that expressed personal opinions about the casino, which was sent anonymously to some of its members from a "fellow MACC member." According to the chamber's notice: "The MACC chamber takes no position at this time, in favor or against, regarding the casino proposal." See attached PDF for the complete statement.

3. The friends of Scott Ellmore of Milford, a father who is undergoing treatment for Stage 4 esophogeal cancer, have created a GofundMe page to help raise funds for his alternative treatment, which is not being covered for the most part by insurance. 4. State Sen. Richard Moore (D-Uxbridge) will hold office hours in Milford on Monday. He will meet with constituents from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Milford Town Hall. No appointment is needed.
