5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 5
Town employees will get the IRS standard for mileage reimbursement, starting in July.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Town employees who use their personal cars for work purposes, including health and construction inspectors, will get the IRS standard for gasoline reimbursement. Starting July 1, the town will increase its reimbursement rate from 35 cents a mile to the IRS standard of 56.5 cents. The town last increased the mileage reimbursement rate in January 2006.
2. Thanks to Yanks, a non-profit that helps military families, has rescheduled its free magic show. The show will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Stacy Middle School. 3. The Milford Planning Board meets on Tuesday night. The agenda includes a rezoning referral for an auto repair business at 51 E. Main St.
4. Twenty-five people applied for a town engineer position in Milford. Current Town Engineer Mike Santora, who is retiring, and Town Administrator Louis Celozzi, also soon to retire, went through the resumes and selected 12 candidates for initial interviews. Incoming Town Administrator Richard Villani participated, as well.

5. Milford officials expect to put a project to replace the roof at Milford Police Department out to bid by May 10. The new roof should be in place by the end of July.
