5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 21

Most town employees will get a raise of 2 percent this year.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. Most town employees will get a 2 percent raise this year, as well as full-time elected officials, except for one group. Milford Selectmen will have a salary freeze for that part-time position.

2. Foxwoods Massachusetts now has a website and a Twitter account, to help disseminate information about the casino application in Milford. According to the website, the development proposes to bring 2,500 construction jobs and 4,000 permanent jobs to the area.

3. Milford has released its 2013 annual town report. The report is available at Milford Town Hall, and is dedicated to three town residents who died in 2012: John Beccia, Dr. Joseph Murray and Dominic D'Alessandro.

4. The annual Firefighters Memorial Sunday will be June 2 at the Birch Street fire station. The annual memorial recognizes firefighters who served the town of Milford. This year's ceremony will be dedicated to Achille Diotalevi, retired firefighter, and the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

5. Milford-based non-profit Children Across America has organized a 5K road race and 2K fun run to benefit literacy and health initiatives. The MetroWest 5K Challenge for Literacy is June 22 at Milford High School. Visit https://millenniumreg.com/metrowest-5k-challenge-for-literacy to register.
