Burglary Suspects Held on $5K, $15K Cash Bail Amounts

Two men accused of burglarizing a home on Littlefield Road in Milford were arraigned Thursday in Milford District Court.

Two men who police say were caught with stolen property that they took from a home on Littlefield Road were arraigned Thursday, and ordered held on $5,000 and $15,000 cash bails.

The men reportedly ransacked the house, and entered it after they were seen by witnesses walking around on several streets in that area, according to the police statement filed in Milford District Court.

Leo Gonzalez, 19, of 5 Paul Dr., Blackstone, is charged with breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, larceny over $250, possession of burglary tools and destruction of property more than $250. He was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail or $50,000 surety by District Judge Robert Calagione, according to the court file.

Michael Charles Wouters, 42, of 131 Washington St., Foxboro, was charged with breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, larceny over $250, possession of burglary tools and destruction of property more than $250. He was held on $15,000 cash bail following arraignment, according to the file.

According to Milford Police detectives, the homeowner was driving home mid-afternoon Wednesday and saw the two men walking with suitcases and bags. "The victim made a joke to his sister-in-law that the luggage looked like his," according to the statement filed by Milford Police Detective Jason Ball.

When the victim arrived at home, "He entered his home and saw it was ransacked,"  Ball wrote.

While his sister-in-law called police, the homeowner got back into his car and drove up to where the men were still walking. Police Detective-sergeant Ken Kingkade arrived about that time. When interviewed by police, Gonzalez said he and Wouters needed money and had been checking out houses in the neighborhood.

Witnesses later interviewed by police confirmed this, according to Ball's written statement, placing the men on Tall Pine, Littlefield and Hunter Circle, walking into and out of yards. One witness spoke to an off-duty police officer, who then went searching for the men, but could not locate them. By that time, Ball wrote in his statement, the two men had entered the Littlefield Road home.

Wouters, when interviewed by police, told a different story than Gonzalez, according to the court records. He told police he had been out for a long walk Wednesday. And saw Gonzalez struggling to carry several bags, and so he "decided to help and then the police showed up," according to Ball's statement.

Both men are next scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 6 for a pretrial hearing.
