Local Athlete Places 5th in World Games, Milford Freshmen Orientation

Here are five things to help inform your day.

1. Liane Blyn, owner of Athletic Based Training, recently returned home from the 2013 World Games, in Colombia, where she placed 5th in the power lifting competition. Blyn had hoped to place among the top 3, but sustained an injury to her elbow during bench warmups, as well as a case of heat exhaustion. "I refused to bow out and am happy to have finished 5th despite not being 100 percent through my bench and deadlift," she wrote, in an email.

2. Incoming Milford High School freshmen will have an orientation from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 15. The session will include a tour of the building, advice from upperclassmen and other activities.

3. Milford organizers of the first farmers market in town hope to open Aug. 24. The group is actively seeking vegetable farmers, who will occupy the largest tables at the proposed marketplace, on one side of Milford Town Hall.

4. Foxwoods Vice President of Compliance John Perry will be available to speak with Milford residents from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday about problem gambling.

5. The Milford Town Library has an opening for a part time circulation clerk. Closing date for applying is Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 5 p.m.
