Milford Begins Work On New Comprehensive Plan
It's been a little over 20 years since Milford last updated a plan guiding growth and development.
MILFORD, MA — Milford this spring will begin working on a new comprehensive plan for the town guiding future growth and development.
The last comprehensive plan was completed in 2003 — before Amazon, before the dissolution of the Milford Water Company and years before the first section of the Upper Charles Trail opened.
The process will begin in earnest in May with a community meeting soliciting ideas from residents about how Milford should develop over the next decade.

"Do you have a vision for Milford? Do you see opportunities for the Town of Milford? Do you see challenges facing the Town? Do you care about the future of Milford? The Town wants to hear from you. The Milford Comprehensive Plan will define goals and strategies for the Town over the next 10 years," the town said in a flier for the event.
At the meeting, town officials will introduce residents to the planning process, and conduct exercises to explore challenges and opportunities that the plan could address.

The last comprehensive plan published in 2003 examined areas like housing growth, open space, cultural and natural resources and traffic. The plan recommended a number of initiatives, although not all made it to fruition — like extending Veterans Memorial Drive all the way to Depot Street (partially where the Upper Charles Trail runs today), and creating a greenway "central park" along Milford's section of the Charles River. But the plan included dozens of other recommendations. Read the full 2003 plan here.
The comprehensive plan community meeting will take place May 13 at 7 p.m. at Milford Town Hall, 52 Main St.
