Milford Enjoys Lowest Crime Rate In 10 Years: Police Stats

The Milford Police Department released its crime statistics from 2016 to 2017, as well as comparisons from the last ten years.

MILFORD, MA—Serious crime is down by 12.3 percent. Overall crime is down by nearly 8 1/2 percent and Milford is enjoying the lowest crime rate in ten years, according a a report released by the department this week.

Crime statistics reported to the FBI by the Milford Police Department indicate that from 2016 to 2017, serious offenses declined 12.3 percent, less serious offenses dropped 5.97 percent, and the overall reduction in crime down from 2016 at 8.47 percent. Two areas where numbers have risen are rapes, which rose from 10 to 18 from 2016 to 2017 and aggravated assault, rising from 49 reported in 2016 and 57 in 2017.

Other statistics that Milford Police Chief Thomas O'Loughlin reported were that over a ten year period, of 2008 through 2017, serious offenses were reduced by 39 percent from the highest point of 770 in 2013. The lowest was 471 in 2017.

Also, during this ten year period, overall crime dropped by 27.6 percent from the highest point of 1,717 offenses in 2012, compared to 1,243 offenses in 2017. That's the lowest reported crime in ten years.
