Milford Upper Charles Trail Expansion to Begin

Brush and small trees will be removed from the former rail trail in the next few months.

The missing section that would create a continuous path through town on the Milford Upper Charles Trail will be completed beginning this summer.

The small trees and shrubs that will be cleared for the trail have been tagged, and engineering work is completed for most of the final segment, said Chad Boardman, manager of the project for Eastland Partners. He updated the Milford Planning Board Tuesday on the progress of the trail completion.

Security fencing has been installed for about 800 to 900 feet of the trail on Carroll Street, and erosion control measures will be completed in about three weeks, he said.

Tree removal will begin in July, Boardman said. He said most of the trees are shrubs and brush.

The path of the third segment of the Milford trail will cross behind the Milford Catholic Elementary School building, and will require relocation of the play area for the school, as well as security gates to ensure the privacy of the school property, he said.
