Milford Water Rate Won't Go Up As Much As Originally Reported

The Milford Water Company announced months ago that the water rate could rise as much as nearly 30 percent.

MILFORD, MA—Residents took a collective gulp in March when the Milford Water Co. announced that customers could see an increase that hit nearly 30 percent.

The company originally filed a petition on June 15, 2017, with the Department of Public Utilities for a general rate increase of $1,895,773, which represents an overall increase of 29.6 percent over the company's currently effective rates. MWC last received a general rate increase in 2013.

The company has amended its proposed increase, reducing it to 24.6 percent, reports the Milford Daily News. While the increase was dropped, the company said to MDN that it would likely see another rate increase within the next two years. The increase means approximately $28.50 more per quarter in the water bill.
