Obituaries: Betty Scott, George Wood, Americo Criasia,William Homan, Serphony Kalunian, Raymond Dominici

Betty Jane Scott, 72, of Holliston, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3. Betty was an employee at Dennison Crossing for 36 years before her retirement. She enjoyed knitting, spending time in Martha’s Vineyard and Florida and had a large Betty Boop Collection.

George William Wood, age 89, from Holliston, passed away Sunday, March 3. His life was a rags to riches story. He was born in 1923, but was given away during the Great Depression because his mother could not afford to care for 3 children, and he was the only boy. He was raised by the Eckles and Fales families in Holliston, who took him in and treated him as a member of their families. In 1944, while on leave in Baltimore, Maryland, the day after he turned 21 and became “legal”, George married the love of his life, Nathalie Goldstein (1923-2008).

Americo J. Criasia 92, of Mashpee, formerly of Hopkinton, died Saturday, March 2. He was educated in the Milford schools. Mr. Criasia was a carpenter and builder and owned and operated Alladin Carpet installation retiring in 1993.

William F. Homan, 79 , of Bourne and formerly of Holliston, passed away Friday, March 1. An Army Veteran who served from 1956-1958, William played semi-pro baseball in the Dodger organization. In addition to his 30 year tenure as a teacher in both Bourne and Wayland, he coached baseball in the Cape Cod League and at Bourne High School, and coached baseball and football at Wayland High School. His love of sports was passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Serphony (Bedrosian) Kalunian, 89, of Milford died at the Blaire House on Feb. 28. Mrs. Kalunian worked for many years as an Executive Secretary for the Superintendent of Schools in the Milford and Hopkinton School Systems. She was also secretary to the school committee in Hopkinton. Earlier in her career, she was employed at the Milford Daily News and the Draper Corporation in Hopedale.

Raymond L. Dominici, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 28. Born March 7, 1919, Mr. Dominici was one of six children of Luigi and Lucia (Bacchiochi) Dominici. He graduated from Milford High School in 1937, became a machinist and later worked at the former Data General Corporation until his retirement in 1984. He was a talented musician, a saxophonist and band leader who played on weekends throughout the Metro West area for more than 50 years. A proud Marchegiano and member of the Nipmuc Rod and Gun Club, Mr. Dominici also enjoyed archery and hunting for pheasants, rabbits and deer. He loved to cook, and he was a member of the Italian Vets, where he was a longtime bocce captain.
