Obituaries: Jose Marques, Thomas Butler, Bill Nice, Aurelio Matos, Bill Welch
These residents of Holliston, Hopkinton and Milford died in recent days.
Jose “Joe” Marques, 84, of Milford, died April 23 at home in the loving care of his daughters. He was employed for 25 years at Digital Corp in Shrewsbury, retiring in 1986. He previously worked for RCA in Needham. Joe was a member of the Portuguese Club in Milford. He enjoyed upland game hunting, soccer, Club Sporting, and gardening and was especially known for his fig trees.
Thomas P. Butler, 76, of Milford died April 22 in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was the husband of Jeanne M. (Cormier) Butler. He loved time spent with his family, especially with his children and grandchildren. He also followed New England sports, most notably the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church and enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and Naples, FL in his retirement.
William J. “Bill” Nice, 77, of Milford died April 20, in Wachusett Extended Care, Holden. He was born in Charlestown on June 17, 1935 the son of the late Harold L. Nice and the late Isabella E. (MacDonald) Seybolt and had attended Cambridge High and Latin School, Cambridge. He had been a longtime resident of Milford since 1971 and had previously lived in Cambridge. Bill loved to play billiards, enjoyed a wide range of music, and was passionate about cooking.

Aurelio “Cutter” Matos, 87, of Milford, died April 19 at the St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester. He was the husband of Florence R. (Woodman) Matos of 65 years. He was born in Milford son of the late Antonio and Maria (Peres) deMatos and was a life long Milford resident. He was educated in the Milford schools and received his High School diploma in 2002 along with other Milford veterans. He was an avid traveler with his wife Florence. He would enjoy watching local projects being built, enjoying them from start to finish with so much patience. He also enjoyed soccer and football. He was a communicant of the St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church and an Honorary Mayor, 2003, of the Prospect Height Mayors Association in Milford.
Wilbert C. “Bill” Welch, 98, of Milford died April 19 at the home of his daughter. He was the husband of the late Helen (Smith) Welch who died in Nov. 2009 and the late Vilma (Hakala) Welch who died in Dec. 1995. Mr. Welch was employed for the Prudential Insurance Co., in Boston, as an Insurance Agent for 35 years before his retirement in 1975.
